Umesh M.S. was introduced to the CBC Radio play Entry Denied, about exclusion of the passengers on the Komagata Maru, on the radio while ill in Europe, and listened to it amidst the news of Bush’s administration looking for WMDs in Iraq in 2002.

Umesh M.S. was introduced to the CBC Radio play Entry Denied, about exclusion of the passengers on the Komagata Maru, on the radio while ill in Europe, and listened to it amidst the news of Bush’s administration looking for WMDs in Iraq in 2002. His work for this project takes two main forms, in addition to a performance for the Opening in Punjabi market that integrates this introductory experience of the Komagata Maru incident through the radio play to explore its relevance today in terms of issues of immigration and belonging: (1) a performance at SFU Woodward's that draws on prior digital video work integrated with live performance, and (2) a dispersed exhibition in the UBC Asian Centre and Asian Library that explores that which remains after the experience of loss.
